Questions about Correctional Officers being certified to use firearms?

Applied for a position a while ago. Part of the application talked about being trained and certified in the use of less-lethal munitions, and operating rifles, shotguns, and handguns. It is for a private correctional facility in Texas. I am assuming if we are certified to operate firearms it would only be on transports or other as needed but not in the center itself right? Does this mean if hired we are issued a firearm for while outside the facility or we would use them only in situations as needed like transports? Thanks
