Is there any way to become a certified addictions counselor without years of schooling?

I am currently studying to earn a B.A. Cross-Cultural Studies, but was hoping to go on M.A. in Counseling Psychology. I visited a Career service and was told that I can become a certified addictions counselor without having a M.A. degree. Is this possible? If so, could you give me some details on how?
